Take a Walk..at Big Indian Creek Waterway Trails

Welcome back to our blog everyone! Today I wanted to introduce you to one of my favorite parks in my hometown, Rotary Centennial Park. I typically refer to the park by the trail names but that is the official park name. If you are ever in Perry, Georgia or driving through on I-75 on a road trip, it is a great place to get out of the car and enjoy some fresh air. The park is only 3 minutes off the interstate and right next to downtown Perry. There is a parking lot right off the main road that features handicap parking and accessible sidewalks. There is no charge to visit this park, and it has no gate although it is open from sunrise to sundown.

The park welcomes dogs as long as they are kept on a leash. It has two main nature trails, the Weleetka Trail and the Whitetail Trail, an area of grass, a gazebo, and plenty of benches if you wish to sit and relax. The Weleetka trail is about a 15 minute walk one way. This is perfect for an ephemeral break from a busy life. If you have more time on your hands to take in the outdoors, the Whitetail Trail is for you. It is 40 minutes one way and features the Bayberry Boardwalk. There you can walk alongside and above the creek. Throughout all the trails there are signs informing you of different animals, plants, trees, and vines that you can spot as you take your stroll.

I have been coming here since 2016. In high school I was in the Green Team Club. We came here to pick up any litter we had seen (there are trash cans, but you know how humans are) and also have a pizza picnic to celebrate the school year coming to an end. The first time visiting this place alone was my last summer in my hometown before leaving for college. I wanted to make the days count and coming here was a great way to spend a summer afternoon. I remember that day like it was yesterday. Me and my friends also come here when we are all back at home together to hang out and spend some time catching up. I try to visit this park every time I am back in my hometown.
