Sope Creek Trail

Updated: May 8, 2021

Hello Everyone! I recently just visited Sope Creek Trail and I really had a great experience here. This trail is in Marietta very close to the Chattahoochee River. It features multiple hiking paths and a separate biking path.

This trail is around 1 to 1.5 miles long but offer multiple different paths that you can take to determine your own distance. There are not many slopes and many of them are avoidable depending on the path that you take. Many of the obstacles such as fallen trees are cut or removed from the path to ensure an easier hike. Overall, this trail is very simple and ideal for beginners. Since it is quite a simple hike, I recommend bringing family members, friends or even your pet companions to accompany you on this walk. Additionally, the trail is mostly covered from the trees being in a forest, so I did not have to worry to much about the sun during my hike.

I highly recommend that you use the sign and plan out your path before heading on the trail because there are multiple paths that you can take, and you could potentially end up losing your direction. However, it is not too much to worry about because there are plenty of signs throughout the entire trail to remind you where you are and how far you are from major stopping points.

One of the highlights of this trail includes the Paper Mill which was built in 1850s only to be destroyed during the Battle of Atlanta, During the Civil War, the mill was once rebuilt but was destroyed again leaving the ruins that can be seen today. It was interesting to learn about the history of this location and see the beauty of it in person. I recommend visiting this part of the trail at least once if this is your first time vising Sope Creek. Another highlight is the creek featured near the very outskirts of the trail right below the mills. Here you can find the beautiful cascades of rushing water filled with many boulders and stone.

I really enjoyed my visit here and I plan on coming back soon and bringing along my friends. If you are looking for a unique adventure with a beautiful creek and mills, Sope Creek is a great trail to visit. Down below you can find pictures from my recent visit!
