Welcome back everyone! This week I visited Panther Creek Falls located near Tallulah Gorge in North Georgia. This gem is open year-round and offers a hike that is perfect for those looking for a backpacking adventure while also being surrounded by beautiful scenic creeks in a lush green forest. The very end of this trail rewards its visitors with a beautiful view of the cascading waterfalls.
Panther creek falls takes place in a luscious green forest filled with different wildflowers with several mossy-covered stones. Along the trail follows a close creek flowing with water that offers for a very peaceful and quiet hike. Scattered across many of the checkpoints of the trail are many different areas designed for camping. There are plenty of open areas with benches in the forest that would be perfect for a shady picnic. These areas are great for taking breaks to rehydrate stay in the shade using the trees. I recommend bringing an extra bottle of water for yourself or any of your companions because I did not notice many water fountains along the trail. There are also many different campsites that allow hikers to bring their own tent if they wish to campout overnight and extend their adventure.
The common trail for Panther Creek totals to roughly about a 7-mile journey. Although the total miles available to hike may be a somewhat difficult distance for beginner hikers, there are many checkpoints that visitors can end their hike early. This hike may be considered a difficult hike because they are many narrow pathways and many fallen trees along the path lines. Many hikers may find themselves having to navigate around avoiding the fallen trees and obstacles blocking their path. Though, do not let that discourage you from visiting this location because all it requires is a little bit of caution especially around the few inclines that are present on the trail. Ultimately, I would recommend this trail for hikers or families who have a little bit of experience under their belt who would be willing to hike a trail of moderate difficulty. Additionally, hikers are able to bring pets considering that they are on a leash. However, take into consideration that it may be difficult for pets to navigate on some parts of the trail being that there may be obstacles present.
When you reach around the halfway mark of the trail, you will begin to hear the roaring of the upcoming waterfalls. This trail is a lot different from the previous hiking trips I had been on in the past because it leads you from the top of the falls down the bank. I recommend being more cautious around this part because the trail starts to be more slippery the closer you are to the falls. At the bottom of the cascades there is a somewhat shallow pool that hikers can swim in if they desire. It is very rewarding to refresh yourself with a quick swim as the water is very cool which is a great way to beat the heat after a long hike. If you don’t plan on getting your feet wet, the view of the falls is definitely worth the adventure regardless.
Below I have a couple pictures from my adventure visiting this location. I definitely recommend this trail if you are looking to go on a hiking adventure and see one of the most beautiful waterfalls offered in North Georgia!
