Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery

There are not enough wonderful things I can say about Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery. Located in Woodstock on Hickory Flat Highway, this gem is one you won’t want to miss. My family and I have been coming here for several years now, and I look forward to every visit. Talk to any customer at Ladyslipper, and you will find that everyone feels the same way about this nursery and the wonderful people who work here. Many customers have been shopping here for as long as the nursery has been open; once you visit, you’ll understand why. For the past twenty-six years, this family owned and operated business has been providing North Georgia with the best customer service, variety of plants and flowers, and expertise in horticulture.

According to their website, “At Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery, we treat what we do as a high art: it’s beautiful, elegant, timeless, and expressive.”[1] One visit, and you’ll know exactly what they mean. As the name implies, Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery has a unique selection of flowers and plants. You’ll find everything from annuals, perennials, native plants, herbs, ground cover, and the nicest people you’ve ever met. Multiple greenhouses line the property, and each one is filled with an overwhelming selection you can’t find anywhere else. Whether you are an expert gardener or looking to speak to an expert in horticulture, this is the place for you. I’m always impressed with the beautiful hanging baskets that line the greenhouses. My mom and I could spend hours walking through each one, and we often do each Spring. Going here feels like an escape from the outside world, tucked away yet close to home. It is exactly the type of place that our blog was created to highlight!

I promise you won’t find the same experience at any other nursery. This past Wednesday, we stopped by and spoke with owners Lula Norris and her son Casey Norris. As always, it was such a pleasure to speak with both. I was admiring these beautiful pink flowers in one of the greenhouses, and right away Lula responded “That’s a Pink Cane Begonia.” I think this speaks to her wealth of knowledge and “over twenty five years in the flower business.”[2] While we were there, I saw many other beautiful flowers like Sweetunia Coral Flash, New Guinea Impatiens, and Scaevola Surdiva Blue Violets. What’s neat is you’ll find information sheets throughout the nursery with product details and valuable planting information. For example, the Scaevola Surdiva Blue Violets attract butterflies, are drought tolerant, and need full sun exposure. If you still have questions, ask one of the knowledgeable employees working there.

I’d highly recommend checking out Ladyslipper’s Facebook page and Instagram account throughout the year to get a sneak peak at new arrivals and all the beautiful varieties available. There is always a reason to visit, and each experience is as great as the one before. For example, in a Facebook post from March 6th, Casey Norris suggests checking out the Blueberry bushes and strawberries. If you’re looking to purchase hanging baskets and Spring flowers, come back in April when the weather warms up and it’s time to plant those. The nursery shares gorgeous photos on social media, so you’ll want to make sure you follow them on their Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery has been my family’s go-to spot for years. If you speak with any other customer who shops there, you will quickly realize that it’s a local favorite. The reviews online are also outstanding, but that’s no surprise to me! You will not find the same quality, variety, or customer service anywhere else. Rather than going to a big box store when purchasing your Spring flowers, support this small business. Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery has the most beautiful and high quality flowers, and people always compliment the ones we purchase from this nursery. However, what I love most is the experience of going. It definitely is a Georgia Gem, and when you visit you’ll understand why this nursery is so highly respected and loved within the community.

One reviewer online states, “I truly love the people who own this nursery and the quality of their product. […] Once a year I make the trip from St. Louis down south to visit family and they all know Ladyslipper is a priority each trip. I browse all the usual and unusual and then load up my car for the trip back with wonderful garden additions!!!”[3] It’s pretty incredible that Ladyslipper attracts out-of-state customers too. How lucky are we that a place like this is so close to home? Next time you’re in the Woodstock area, stop by and discover one of Georgia’s best kept secrets. Ladyslipper Rare Plant Nursery is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The phone number is (770) 345-2998. With the weather warming up, now is the perfect time to visit. You’ll wonder what took you so long!
