Kennesaw Double Feature

Welcome back to Georgia Gems Blog! This week we will have two gems for the price of one! We will be talking about Swift-Cantrell Park and the Noonday Creek Trail. Both places are located in Kennesaw, Georgia and are very special to me personally. Swift-Cantrell Park is more for people with children, skaters, or dog-lovers. While Noonday Creek Trail is more for people looking to walk, bike, or run for long distances. Both places feature Emergency Location Markers, which are signs that allow emergency personnel to find people quickly and easily based off of a geographic coordinate system.

Swift-Cantrell Park is only a short drive from where I live, and it has so many incredible amenities. This is a dog-friendly park and makes up 42 acres total. There are two different playgrounds and a large splash-pad for children. There is a large skatepark for teenagers. There are three large pavilions for people to have picnics under. There is a mile outer-loop trail and a half a mile inner-loop trail. There is a small dog and large dog park for the furry friends. Finally, there is an outdoor fitness station, which was established by Life University. There are multiple restroom locations at the park as well.

This park is one that I visit on a frequent basis, and my dog loves to go explore and find new things to sniff. Her favorite part of the park is the wide-open grass fields, and she likes to drag me through them when she runs. My favorite part of the park is that it is very safe and there are always people there. There are often police officers who patrol the area, and during the business day there is usually a ground worker there too. This park is perfect if you are looking for somewhere to walk your dogs, let your children play, go skating, or simply work out!

The second feature this week is the Noonday Creek Trail. This trail is one of Cobb County’s prized possessions. It is approximately 6 miles one way with aspirations to extend it in the near future. There is a portion in Woodstock, Georgia that has not been connected to the Kennesaw portion yet. The trail’s surface is asphalt, boardwalk, and concrete so it is great for running, walking and bike riding.

This trail is really special to me because it is where I trained to complete a half marathon last year with one of my friends. This trail is really flat and there are always people on it, so it is safe to go on alone as well. I have seen beautiful sunrises on the trail as well as some of the prettiest days too.

Overall, Kennesaw is so lucky to have two well-maintained parks for people of all ages to visit whenever they want. I have been fortunate to take advantage of both parks on a weekly basis through my time in college. These two parks make for a great place to visit for the Kennesaw local and they make a great day trip to relax at for other metro-Atlanta residents.
